March 21st, 2003

Dear Parents, Parishioners and Students,

The Transition Coordinating Team is pleased to announce the name for our new school —"North Akron Catholic School". We would like to thank all the children for their wonderful submissions. We had 3 winners! Due to the similarity of the names submitted, each child will receive a $100 prize and be part of the ribbon cutting ceremony. Those children are: Alex Stavroff, (3rd) Saint Martha, Nick Fleming (6th) Saint Martha, and Cali Roth (8th) Christ the King.

The Team met on March 19th and agreed that, in the best interest of the children and all involved, the merger of the schools will take place for the 2003-2004 school year. The Team members reviewed the combined present registrations and have determined that these give us a very healthy new start with great class size. We do have some room left in each class for growth, and registration will continue. Those interested in registering may contact either present school. All new registrations will be for the North Akron Catholic School.

We know that everyone will have questions. One of the most important ones — curriculum — has been answered. We will be following the curriculum as mandated by the Diocese of Cleveland, which means, we will continue to offer the required courses: Religion, Math, Reading, Language Arts, Science, Health, Social Studies, and Art. We will have 1 grade and a teacher for each grade/classroom! In addition, we will continue to offer Computer Science, Spanish, Music, and Physical Education, with additional individual teachers that specialize in these subjects. We will continue to offer the preschool program as part of North Akron Catholic School with our own teacher for this program.

Tuition is currently being reviewed and will be announced by April 30th.

Teachers will be selected through a joint interview process by both principals and all staff announcements will be in April, as well.

We are currently working with both CASA and the Home and School groups as well as the respective athletics boards to get these leadership positions in place.

Communication is the key to making this merger a success. The Transition Coordinating Team will continue to provide you with updates as we meet and the merger progresses. We need your assistance in making this happen. Please submit any questions you have to your respective Transition Coordinating Team members by email at nacs@saintmarthaparish.org, or by sending a note to school marked TCT. We will compile these questions and send out the answers and the progress we have made.

Focus groups will be formed for many of the tasks that need to be accomplished. We are going to need volunteers to assist in these groups. Please sign up as requests are sent home or published in the Bulletin. If there is an area you feel strongly about being involved in send a note marked as above and you will be contacted.

The grace of the Lord, the dedication of the staff, parents and parishioners and the enthusiasm of the children will bring us success, and result in creating a new vision and a brighter future for the mission and ministry of Catholic Education and Formation in North Akron!
